TRiM PROJECTS

EV Charger Project

Supporting Shire in provision of community’s first publicly available EV charger.

What we do

This project has been in the works for several years. TRiM (then MSEG) and the East Gippsland Shire both applied for Destination Charging Across Victoria funding.

Our desire was to collaborate with a local community-owned facility to install a charger on their land to ‘soak up’ excess solar produced by their solar/battery/generator system. The income generated by the charger would have benefited both organisations.

The East Gippsland Shire was successful for 7 chargers across the shire. Four are now in and functional with the final 3 intended to be in Lakes Entrance, Buchan and Mallacoota by the end of 2023.

TRiM’s application was unsuccessful so we have since been assisting and encouraging the EGSC Project Mgr. We are also investigating other future EV charger opportunities.

Benefits

Why we do it
This will be the first publicly available EV fast charger within an hour of Mallacoota and will offer the opportunity for those with electric vehicles to visit our community.
It has the potential to begin shifting the balance of our visitor population from internal combustion engines towing ever larger boats and caravans to also include more energy and environmentally sensitive travellers.

Outcomes

What we work towards

Consideration

Consideration of a Zero Net Energy future in Mallacoota.

Decrease in CO2 Emissions

EV owners travelling to Mallacoota because of access to this charger will visit without increasing our community’s CO2 emissions by their journey.
